'Flowers of the Forest’

Published May 2007 by Pegasus Elliot Mackenzie Publishers  ISBN 9781903490273

Imprint Pegasus     Classification Fiction / Historical

'Flowers of the Forest'  is a fresh approach to Bonnie Prince Charlie's 1745 rebellion. The novel tells the story from the point of view of the ordinary people who were caught up in the violence; the main focus is a young Edinburgh girl, Mari Drummond, who is forced to fight for love and survival in a divided Scotland.

The story moves from the dark wynds and narrow closes of eighteenth century Edinburgh to the awesome beauty of the Highlands. "Flowers of the Forest" paints an unforgettable picture of Scotland during one of its most exciting and turbulent episodes.

Francisque Poulbot (1879-1946) lived in the famous Artists’ Quarter of Montmartre in Paris. His vivid drawings of the ragged street children of the area were so popular that a “poulbot” came to mean a Parisian urchin.

This is his story, and theirs.  Read an extract
